Sorry for the long delay, but with the holidays and everything going on, I’ve been covered up. I have not had much time to get on the water but I am trying to get into the swing of things. This time of year on the water can be tough. As the water starts to warm up, the fishing can be awesome. Right now, I would try throwing some search baits such as a lipless crank bait. My two favorites are the Strike King Red Eye Shad and the lipless made by Live Target Lure Company. Next, I would try a suspending jerk bait. I like the Strike King KUD 300 and a Mega bass 110. Any of these are great choices. Use these to help you find some fish. Once you find them, you need to slow down a little with a jig or a shaky head. You can work them slow and find the bigger fish this way.
Some of the greatest memories I have is spending time on the water with my two boys. Everything from teaching them line selection, reading a depth finder, and driving the boat has been some of the best times spent together. So, take someone out when the weather warms up and introduce them to fishing. I’m looking forward to this new time in my life as a grandfather, aka Poppy, to teach my granddaughters how to fish. I hope I can make it as much fun for them as it will be for me. It’s all about spending time with your family and having fun. Everyone stay safe and be careful. If you find yourself bored, drop me a line and we will see if we can go fishing. I always have an extra rod and an extra seat.
