GADSDEN - Holly Pond used a strong rushing attack and solid defense to defeat Coosa Christian 49-0. Caleb Jones carried for 238 yards and four touchdowns while Michael Lambert passed for another 80 yards and two touchdowns leading the Broncos to an opening night victory. Trey Hill added a 45 yard touchdown run and Caleb Lambert added a 3 yard touchdown run aldo. The defense held the Conquerors to only 158 total yard while the Broncos amassed 456 yards of total offense.
Half a dozen games will be on tap for the final Friday in August.
While Addison visits Hanceville , the Cullman Bearcats host North Jackson, the Fairview Aggies play East Lawrence at West Point Stadium, the Holly Pond Broncos head to Brindlee Mountain, the Cold Springs Eagles take a trip to Berry in Fayette County and the West Point Warriors are at Wilson in the Florence area.
Warm conditions are expected for all games with the possibility of rain. Kickoff will be at 7:00 p.m.
HOLLY POND - With a victory that ended a 29-game losing streak last October, the Holly Pond Broncos are in search of more wins in 2016.
The Broncos open the new season with high enthusiasm as they travel to Coosa Christian School in Gadsden Friday evening.
Coach Mike Bates begins his fourth season at Holly Pond, having 8 starters back on offense, including QB Michael Lambert, RB Caleb Jones, WR Dylan Morton, TE Zach Naler and Riley Gillilan, Jason Foshee and Jacob Wilson in the offensive line.
This is the first meeting between the Broncos and the Conquerors. Coosa Christian was 0-10 last season and has only four victories in its last 30 games.
